Reflection
This week was extremely rewarding yet very time consuming. I spent over two weeks on this week's work because of multiple 4+ hour milling jobs. Even so, all of the milling worked relatively smoothly on the first try, and I gained valuable skills, such as heat-welding wax. I also learned how to cast silicone molds and valuable lessons about designing molds-for-molds to be able to create hard final products without destroying a wax mold.
Casting
- How to mix casting materials correctly
- What cure time and pot time mean
- It's very difficult to cast a hard material into a multi-part silicone mold without leaks
Milling & Molding
- How to heat-fuse wax pieces
- How to use the larger Bantam milling machine
- The extent of the impact of a finishing path (and it's time-based drawbacks)
