10. Output Devices

This week’s group assignment is to measure the power consumption of an output device.

Our group assignment for the week was to do our lab’s safety training about with test for runout, alignment, fixturing, speeds, feeds, materials, and toolpaths for the CNC machine

Zack Budzichowski: Documentation and analysis
Dan Stone: Set up motor, power supply and ran tests at different speed
Adam Durrett: Measurements and analysis

Setup

We are going to test the power consumption of a 12V DC motor using a Wanptek DC Power Supply.
1.PowerSupply

We are using a 12-14V /80W motor with a variable speed ESC.

Here are the measurements: The measurements on the left coorespond to the motor on its fastest setting. The right is when it is at its slowest setting.

We then took those measurements, and calculated the power using the voltage and current multiplied together. Below is the power curve for the slow speed, and fast speed.

This shows that the power exponentially grows as the voltage increases. Also note that the slow speed uses significantly less power that the high speed, as it runs at about 20% of the high speed’s power.
