Week 19. Project Development

This week assignment was about answering the questions on our work progress of our final project. Currently we are working with Guru Rico providing us moral support and now I can say we have lots of progress just in few days. Thanks to Sir Rico…

Questions and answers:

  1. what tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

Task completed

  1. The design for the physical fabrication is completed.
  2. Using the shopbot and laser cutting cutting the front cover, rings and the gear is completed.
  3. Designed the PCB board, milled the board.
  4. Soldered the components and tested and it works.
  5. Programming the board as per my input and output device: completed for one board(LED board).
  6. 3D printing of gear and the servo motor stand completed.

Not completed

  1. Programming the RTC module and the servo motors need to be refined.
  2. Need t work on mounting the electronics components and assembling the parts into final body.
  3. Need to work on packaging.

  4. what’s working? what’s not?

Working

  1. The gear mechanism works.
  2. The LDR sensor board works

Not working

  • The servo motors need to work based on feedback from RTC module and this code need to be refined as it is still not working.

what questions need to be resolved?

  1. If time favors I need to remill the boards as the one I am using has jumper wires connected while debugging.
  2. I need to refine the code for servo motors movement.

what will happen when?

  • I made a schedule shown below to complete my task on time and to focus on what needs to be done first. This will help me to make my final project work before I shot a video.

what have you learned?

  • Fab Academy taught me how to manage time, prioritize the work and to do documentation.
  • Since the Fab Academy is an open source I have learnt how to use different designing softwares like Tinkercad, Fusion360, basic of Solidworks, FreeCAD, Inkscape and GIMP.
  • I learned how to design PCB, mill the board using SRM 20 and solder the components and programme the board.
  • Infact going to the appropriate resource is important for learning, Fab Academy shares the good resources in their page.
  • Learned how to use various digital fabrication machines in the lab practically.
