Week 18. Invention, Intelectual property and Income

Professor Neil talked about different kinds of licenses under which we can register our Final Project. I went through this page to know know more on licensing.

Assignment

  • develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
  • prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory

Plan for dissemination of my FP

My project will be for the one who are interested in fabrication and making things with hand and fabrication. Even though there are perpetual calenders in the market I designed this in our local language and anyone can prototype this later. I used the servo motors to drive mainly because if I use DC motor I need a gearbox with proper ratio for all three rings like a wall clock but if I order a gearbox it will take time and will be expensive as well. I tried 3D printing the gears and assembled it but it is not work as good as manufactured. So anyone can choose to drive with DC motor and different gear ratios for different rings.

Copy Right and Licensing

Creators can apply a Creative Commons license to their work if they want to give other people the rights to share their works. Creative Commons offers several types of licenses with features that offer different levels of protection.

As we are given to choose the license I go for Attribution- NonCommercial-Sharelike license.

I accept other people for using and sharing my final project materials. I made this project not for commercial purpose and I made it is mainly to make something with my hand to learn more on digital fabrication. This is my first time programming electronics, indeed a learning platform for me.

My future Plan

In my country Bhutan there are many citizen who do not know English but knows Dongkha(local language), my final project may benefit to them. My final project is specifically for those who depend on local language. I actually do not want to replicate and commercialize it but anyone intend to make can go through my website and build one following the license condition. In my documentation it contains all the processes involved so

Draft slide and video

I prepared my draft slide in Inkscape and used a imovie to edit a video. I used FFMPEG to compress the video which made my video exactly to 10mb(<10mb). To upload in my root directory I copied the slide and a video and pasted under index folder and did git push.
