About me

Hi hello everyone! My name is Thinley (pronounced thin-lay) Dorji Wangchuk and I am from the Kingdom of Bhutan! I currently live in Bhutan, and will be doing the fabacademy in the Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck Super Fablab.

I graduated in 2017 from Drexel University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, on the Fulbright Scholarship. I currently work as an associate analyst (Mechanical Engineer) at Druk Holding and Investment’s research arm DRIVE and in the Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck Super Fablab. I was a part of the team that set up this lab and we were all honoured when his Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck inaugrated the Super Fablab as part of his first official duty as the crown prince.

I play more of a role in the Research and Development (R&D) side of things with a focus on Drones, Automobiles (especially EVs and their motors) and clean energy initiatives such as vertical axis wind turbines. I enjoy conducting simulations: mainly computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamics, and have now begun conducting 2D Finite element magnetics (FEMM) for motor simulations as well. But as an engineer, I am always up for learning new skills and techniques.

On the more “casual” side of things, I really enjoy watching and playing sports, especially Football (soccer) and Basketball and I work out atleast 5 times a week in an attempt to stay fit and healthy. I also enjoy gaming (though that love is diminishing slowly as I am getting older :( ), with fifa, Dota 2 and Call of Duty:Warzone being my most played games. However, fashion is the field that I am most interested in and takes up a lot of my free time. An old lost habit that I am trying to reignite at the moment is reading, a personal goal for this year would be to read a minimum of atleast one book a month. while this seems like a small number, I want to make it a habbit again.

I am a big big foodie when it comes to food. To be honest I can’t really choose a favourite cuisine but I think my go to staple food will always be french fries. Im a big fan of Korean, American, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian and Middle-eastern cuisines. As a big enjoyer of burgers and fries, I remember in Bali when we went for the lunch (during tours of the challange sites) I ordered a cheeseburger and it became quite the center of attention, with people making fun of me for coming all the way to Bali to eat a cheeseburger. I discovered this new restaurant called Ongtong in Bangkok and the khao soi there was just amazing!

As for before university and work, I studied in a boarding school in Darjeeling, India called St. Joseph’s school from third to twelfth grade, so I have always grown up away from my family. While it was sad growing up away from family, I think it made me the person I am today and it really helped me become a very independent and adaptable individual which made life so much easier studying in the states and everything after that. I hope to be able to use all the lessons and skills I have learnt so far in life to successfully complete the Fabacademy, while also learning all the new skills that I will during this cycle and make new friends!

------ I have uploaded my signed agreement in my repo (under about me) and have tried to link it below but since its a markdown file and I am still a beginner in html and web development, the file dosen't open so I took a cue from Adrian and have pasted the agreement above!
