#18 Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
This week I considered about the dissemination plan of my Final Project
Assignment
- Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
- Complete yourfinal project, tracking your progress
The plan for dissemination of the final project
This work can function simply as a device to record my travels, but what I really wanted to do with this work and what it means for me is to grasp the relationship between cultures in 3D. In other words, this is an effort to utilize Fab technology to compare cultures. This time, I created it as a kind of art piece within the academy. It is to express what is in my head as a concrete object and to use it as interior decoration for my room. I also prioritized using the newly learned techniques as much as possible.
There are following possibilities for the popularization and development of this project.
Make it larger and use it for exhibitions in museums, etc.
The comparative cultural aspect can be emphasized and used for exhibits in cultural institutions. In the process of making it, I feel that it is necessary to make the globe larger in order to make small countries respond to taps. A larger globe would allow it to be moved more accurately.
Marketed as an interior device that can record memories for travel lovers
I could consider commercializing the product, emphasizing the travel recording aspect. In that case, the specifications of the tapping points and the fixing method would need to be improved. Currently, it is a little too costly, so I may need to consider ways to reduce costs a little more.

The work I created this time is also a learning experience for me, so there may be
better ways to integrate it into a product or reduce costs. From that perspective, I
would like to learn from the ideas of others.
I would like to solicit information on how to improve this work as a Creative
Commons license, by asking people to give back information on how to use it.

Complete yourfinal project, tracking your progress
What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?
Completed tasks
- Mechanism test with 1 pin
- Assembly test for whole project
- Connection between MCUs and Raspberry Pi
- Wiring in the wood base, connection between Raspberry Pi and projector
Remaining tasks
- Solving the problem of slow video performance
- Processing after the video has finished
- Preparing photos and videos (size correction, compression)
- Connecting sensors to multiple countries
- Finishing the base (varnishing, etc.)
- Finishing the surface of the globe
- Making the final video
- Making the final slides
What’s working? What’s not?
Working:
When you touch a country, the LED lights up and a video plays.
Not working:
- As you touch sensor, the video will play smoothly.
- The LEDs light up according to the length of the video.
- Video of the country you touch will play, and the LEDs will light up according to the climate.
What questions need to be resolved?
- Wiring distance to country pin
- Finish the base with lacquer or varnish?
- Problem with the glass floating
- Problem with making the background of the Processing screen black
What will happen when?
- When you tap the country, the movie/image will be projected and LED will turn on
- When the video finish, the screen turns black and LED will turn off
What have you learned?
- How to make almost anything —-learn how to design and make actual object/product/machine with mechanisms with various process
