14. Invention, intellectual property and income

Assignment Objectives:

  • Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
  • Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory

Intellectual property

Innovation, Investment, IP & Commercialization in Jordan

We had a meeting with a specialist in innovation, commercialization, strategy, investment, corporate finance, and research, Mohammed Aljafari Director of Intellectual Property Commercialization Office, iPark in Royal Scientific Society to talk about the intellectual property.

Intellectual Property

Summary

  • Anything that a person makes it is automatically the intellectual property of it.

  • Patents most useful with large companies, then to big investors if the product is an invention with high value of return.

  • Software has some issues with the intellectual property, and it is harder to protect.

  • Introduce us to incubators in Jordan like iPark and Oasis500, that helps entrepreneurs and start-ups innovative start-ups to move from ideation to implementation stages, harnessing the best of their abilities, in order to enable them to receive follow on support and grow their businesses.

  • Sometimes it is better to have a Trade Secrets to protect your idea.

John Edmark’s Statement, inventor of bloom sculpture

To continue upon the incredible work of John Edmark‘s work on the Golden Angle and a quote his Statement:

If change is the only constant in nature, it is written in the language of geometry.

Much of my work celebrates the patterns underlying space and growth. Through kinetic sculptures and transformable objects, I strive to give viewers access to the surprising structures hidden within apparently amorphous space.

While art is often a vehicle for fantasy, my work is an invitation to plunge deeper into our own world and discover just how astonishing it can be. In experiencing a surprising behavior, one’s sense of wonder and delight is increased by the recognition that it is occurring within the context of actual physical constraints. The works can be thought of as instruments that amplify our awareness of the sometimes tenuous relationship between facts and perception.

I employ precise mathematics in the design and fabrication of my work. I do this neither out of a desire to exhibit precision per se, nor to exalt the latest technology, but because the questions I’m trying to formulate and answer about spatial relationships can only be addressed with geometrically exacting constructions. Mathematical precision is an essential ally in my goal of achieving clarity.

Nature is generous and inexhaustible, rewarding curiosity with startling insights and an abundance of ever more beautiful mysteries. Through my work I endeavor to share the joy of discovery with others in a continuing pursuit of the timeless patterns of change.

What will I choose, and why

From that, I will choose the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), and it means that:

You are free to:

Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.

And under the following terms:

Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.

ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

Creative Commons License

This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

And the Why, because I have done the same work as John Edmark but in different programs, I did not invent something new.
But I have made the tool that you can generate different shapes of the bloom because is parametric, that means that any remix, transform, or build upon the material will be done automatically, that it why I added ShareAlike to the license.

Dissemination of My Work

Current Plan

Make the first draft of the basic of this project for the electronics and the design, to work properly, then improve the programming of the microcontroller, and the general design.

Future Plans

To make it a complete product; better design and friendly user interface, which I can sell them online through my site Ezmeel.store, and make other types of zoetrope that is not based on the Fibonacci’s sequence.

The zoetrope sculptures will be custom order, I made the 3D model parametric so I can make different models of the zoetrope, not just one model.

Prepare drafts of your summary slide and video clip

Summary slide

Here is my first draft of my Summary Slide, it just a mockup and I will upload the finished project the basic of the template that I made.

Update:

Because the COVID-19, I did not have any videos related to make a video, but after that I finished my final project here is the link and the video.
