Week 11: Mechanical Design¶
This week my group and I were tasked with building a machine.
Assignment #1: Design a Machine that Includes Mechanism + Actuation + Automation¶
My group I was assigned to included me, Pari, Andrew, and Aarush. We were tasked with building a machine. After lots of thinking, we came up with the idea to build an M & M sorting machine. The rest of how we built and put together this machine, as well as the final results can be found right here.
My person contributions include the following:
- All programming for the entire project
- Design & Construction of the screen holder
- 3D modeling of the finished product
- All the wiring and electronics construction
- Assistance from Pari and me myself building the base, supports, and mounting the 2 axis machine atop

Week Summary¶
This set of two weeks tought me a lot about how I interact with a team and group. I found myself struggling to take an idea from an image in my mind and correctly convery it to the others in my group which at some points caused some issues. I also learned I enjoy working alone on projects such as this rather than in a group. On the good side, I learned how to use stepper motors, program UI using python on the RasPi, and also how to construct a two axis machine.
