Applications and Implications

This is one of the most relaxed weeks one have gotten since the inception of the fab Academy. In this week, the importance and significance of products and devices were explored. This involves marketability, desirability, maintainability, usability, commerciability, safety implications as well as financial implication were stduied.

So the description phase of this module will be brief.

Applications

This focuses on the avenue with which the product can be put into operation. This is significant in terms of the acceptability, and distribution of the product. Therefore, before creating a device or product, it is advisable to do a proper study of whether there is a market or need or demand for the product. Depending on your orientation, there could be a commercial market for the product, where it could be used to generate income or business. In addition to this, there could also be an Open Source market for the product, where others are licensed to exercise some forms of freedom on the development and usage of the prodtc. The ideal licenses used include 'Creative Commons', 'Open Source Hardware Licence', and 'MIT Licence'.

Implications

Another factor to consider is the financial implication of the project. How much will the product development cost? This should also cover all forms of expenditure to be incurred on the project, such as risk plans, material, safety and quality. Out of all these implications, two stands out, and these are financial implications and safety implications.

Therefore, it is very vital to know have this information beforehand, just the saying that says 'He who fails to plan, plans to fail', your project should not be an understudy or else it would see the light of day.
