Licensing

Haven’t tought too much about it… Tried reading a bit about different preset licensing options and stuck with Creative Commons as they have by far the best documentation explaining each tier.

They even have a lovely configurator with a couple of questions to help pick the appropriate license.

For now I’ll have to reserve any and all comercial rights I might be entitled to, at least until I figure out the patent situation and it’s validity. Which I’m a bit confident is unenforceable but lets avoid wasting anyone’s time.

I was left curious about the difference about Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) and Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)

And they seem nearly identical…

NonComercial License

Besides this line:

Which seems to mean that any derivative work needs to retain the license I set so I guess we have a winner. Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International or CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 for short it is....

Dissimnination

First step after/for me to graduate is to finish/redo my FabAcademy website.

Maybe get a better understanding of the innerworkings of GitLab/GitHub so I can setup a nice page for those who which to replicate or build on my work.

I’m sure I can get a few hits from social media and stuff… There are some sub-reddits that might be interested.

I’ll have to give it a thorough thought on how and what I want to do about it after Fab Academy. I already have my business but as mostly a service company I’ll possibly look into licensing comercial use or something… If not maybe setup a Patreon or Buy Me A Coffee and keep working on it if people think it’s worth it… We’ll see.

Name

Since about 2-3 weeks into FabAcademy I had an idea for a name but didn’t have the time to look too much into it. Now’s the time.

The name I came up back then was Dotum, a play on dot and datum. A datum is the single basic unit of data which in the case of a coordinate measuring machine would be the individual spacial points that are saved, hence the dots…

Ups, I bought a domain…

I was wondering if Dotum.com is available.

Dotum.com Price

Oh… 7500€? #HardPass

But Dotum.xyz is available… and this is a coordinate measuring machine so .xyz is pretty perfect…

Ups…

Worst case scenario I can use it to redirect to GitLab or something.
