What will it do?
My final project regards a kind of juggling, called Flower stick. The purpose is to add Persistence of Vision effect to create writings and animation when you play with it.
Who’s done what beforehand?
I took ispiration from tha Adafruit project they made on a Poi juggling.
Also Flower sticks with LED are starting being more commons.
What will you design?
The whole electronics, the electronics holders to install them on the sides and the protective "flowers".
What materials and components will be used?
- Aluminium pipes (50cm leght x 1cm diameter x1) and (30cm leght x 1cm diameter x2)
- Rubber strips
- Silicon for casting
- Electronic components
Where will they come from?
- The rubber strip from a Tennis Sport shop
- The pipes from a local hardware/metalware shop
- Silicon for casting from Feroca shop - Easy Plat 00-30
- Electronic components from local shop and Online shops
How much will they cost?
- 46€ - 2kg of Silicon (however I will use no more than 200ml of that)
- 2€ - for 2m of aluminium pipe
- 5€ - tennis rubber strip
- 20€ max - of electronic components (LEDs, Resistors, AtMega8, Voltage Regulator, 9V battery)
So the budget should be around 70€
What parts and systems will be made?
- Customizing the pipes to increase friction
- The protective flower to be inserted at the ends of the main-stick
- At least 2 electronic PCB, one for the LED and Sensors and the other as a brain board for the microcontroller
- Holder for the electronic boards
What processes will be used?
- Electronics manufactoring and Embedded programming for the PCB board
- 3D scanning to create the custom holder for the hand-sticks
- 3d Modeling and 3D printing to create the test holder and the final holder for the boards
- Laser cutting for creating Test holder and the Final Pedestal of the whole device
What questions need to be answered?
Would it be enough using just Tilt-switches to detect the movement properly or I will end up needing a more sophisticated sensor as an accelerometer/gyroscope in order to obtain a satisfing result?
How will it be evaluated?
The main purpose of my project is to show animation with the POV effect, so even if the animation would not be consistent and blurry I would be satisfied
