applications and implications

Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered, answering:

CAD Design

01. What will it do?

Role of composter using EM solution is to make household food waste compost.

WHAT is EM?

EM is a people-friendly and environmentally safe product that achieves synergistic effects by combining beneficial microorganisms which exist in nature, such as lactic acid bacteria, yeast and phototrophic bacteria. (Reference site)

EM's role

  • Deodorization of food
  • Help compost food waste.
  • Activate beneficial microorganisms present in the soil.
  • Mix the soil, food waste and microorganisms evenly using a pedal. In addition, the temperature is raised using a heater so that microorganisms can decompose food waste well.

    02. Who's done what beforehand?

In Fab Academy 2017, Siddharth Arya of Fab lab CEPT (India) had made a composter. (Siddharth Arya's site)

Differences between me and his project

  • Use microbes to decompose food waste.
  • Set the temperature at which microorganisms decompose.
  • Mix constantly so that the microorganisms can decompose quickly.
  • 03. What will you design?

    Internal Cylinder

  • Connction Part of Motor and Gear (The first thing to test is the timing belt and timing pulley.)
  • Mixing Paddle (3D Design for CNC)
  • Frame

  • Apearance Part (I will design the part the control box will occupy and button and panel place.)
  • Lid Part (Slide Lid or Something)
  • Support Part (For Internal Cylinder)
  • Input & Output Device

  • Sensor Board (Board with temperature sensor and soil moisture sensor)
  • Output Board (Control board with heater and motor)
  • 04. What materials and components will be used?

    05. Where will come from?

    06. How much will they cost?

  • Communications

  • Interface & Application
  • 09. What questions need to be answered?

    Internal Cylinder

  • How do you connect the paddle so that it doesn't leak

--->The mixing part is made using aluminum. Do not leak water by welding.

  • Can the paddle be designed to be separated?

--->First, make a product for testing, and then add the details.

  • Frame

  • What should be considered when designing frames?

--->Consideration should be given to the space where the motor and gear enter. (Position of the control box)

  • Input Devices

  • What size LED panel should be used?

--->Let's think after the control box part is designed

  • What will the led panel show?

---> Perhaps only the measurements of input sensors will be shown. Whether it is working will use a separate LED.

  • Output Device

  • What size motor do I need?

--->I will try nema17 stepper motor first. And if I need more power, I should consider a larger motor.

  • What kind of gear is appropriate for my project? (Option : Belts or Chains)

--->I will test first using the timing belt and timing pulley. And if they lack power, I can consider using a fan belt.

  • What kind of heater is appropriate for my project?

--->I decided to use a silicone heater pad.

  • Communications

  • What features will be included in the interface application?

--->If I have enough time to develop a project, I want to use app inventory using wifi.

--->The first attempt is to communicate between the boards using I2C networking.

  • 10. How will it be evaluated?

    Internal Cylinder

  • Does not the Internal Cylinder leak?
  • Does the paddle inside mix the contents well?
  • Frame

  • Are the gears moving smoothly?
  • Input Devices

  • Is the distance sensor a good sensor to measure the amount of content?
  • Output Device

  • Does the motor with gear connected work smoothly?
  • Does the heater work well as it is programmed?
  • Is it strong enough to mix the contents?
  • Communications

  • Does the temperature-based heat system work well?
  • Does the panel connected to the motor work well?
  • Does the panel connected to the motor work well?
  • Does the sensor measure well on the LED panel?
  • Does App Inventor accurately show the measurements of sensors?
  • Project Plan
