My name is Jihwan Kim. I have been interested in science and fabrication since I was young and liked to try. So at the age of 21, I tried to cook in the army and I was interested in it. After I finished army, I entered technical institution to learn how to cook. And I worked in a restaurant for a year. But work in the restaurant was not satisfactory to me and I longed for something new. At that time, I was given an amazing opportunity called Fab Academy. I was very excited. Of course I know nothing about coding, 2D, 3D design and fabrication equipment, but I will enjoy the fab Academy and change.
About Fablab
The Seoul Innovation FabLab is located on the 1st floor of the Seoul Innovation Park Production Building, and is working with social innovators in various fields such as art, technology, culture, education, and domestic and foreign makers. It is a technology-based social innovation laboratory capable of various experiments and productions in daily life, with a wide working environment of about 150 pyeong and 3D printer, laser processing machine, CNC, as well as lathe, milling and welding machine. We are committed to a community of makers that share technology and information and solve problems in their communities and lives. Food Waste Composter
This is my 2020 Fab Academy project, Food waste composter. This is a machine that decomposes food using microorganisms. First, put soil and microbial solution in the machine and let microorganisms activate, then put food in and decompose. It mixes the contents so that microorganisms can easily break down food waste and sets the temperature at which microorganisms can operate vigorously. And the food waste that microorganisms decompose becomes a nutritious fertilizer. And there are sensors that check the temperature and humidity inside. The heater inside turns on and off depending on the temperature.
