Applications and Implications

Answering the Questions:

1- What does it do?

  • Read soil moisture and irrigate the plant.
  • Sense water level in tank and show level.
  • Manual and automatic irrigation using phone app.
  • Nice to have features:
    1. AI assistance to help take care of the plant.
    2. More readings and sensing.
    3. Modularity and adding more plants.
    4. Lighting using neopixel.
    5. Interactive screen.

    2- Who's done what beforehand?

  • Titul de la web: Only Sensing.
  • Leire Bereziartua: Modularity, solar energy powering, self irrigation, web interface.
  • Ibrahim Alzoubi: Self irrigation large pot.
  • Ismael LB: Step response.
  • 3- What will you design?

  • 3D Printed Parts (Done)
  • 2D Laser Cut Cork (Done)
  • PCB Design for project and step response (Done)
  • 4- What materials and components will be used? Where will they come from? How much will they cost?

5- What parts and systems will be made?

  • 3D printed parts: Main Body and Electronics Cover. Pot and Drawer are in progress.
  • 2D Laser Cutting: Cork.
  • Integrate code for project with Communication.
  • System Integration and Final Assembly.
  • 6- What processes will be used?

  • 2D and 3D design
  • Laser Cutting
  • 3D printing
  • Vinyl Cutting
  • Electronics Design
  • Programming - Communication , Wi-fi
  • PCB Milling
  • 7- What questions need to be answered?

  • Will the 3D printed parts fit perfectly?
  • Will the step response work as expected and measure water level well?
  • Should the communication be over Wi-Fi or BLE?
  • 8- How will it be evaluated?

  • The project should have a working pump based on the readings of the soil moisture sensor (Self irrigation).
  • The Led should show the status of the water tank using guiding colors.
  • The project can be controlled using a mobile app.
  • 9- What tasks have been completed? What tasks remain? What will Happen when?

The tasks remaining are the not checked tasks starting from May 28.

Check Final Project Development to see what was done when and track the development of the project.

10- What has worked? What hasn't?

So far everything is working individually. Just a burnt xiao esp32-c3 and neopixel stick, fabricating PCB for the third time, and some failed 3d prints :D.

    11- What have you learned?

  • Actually, pretty much a lot of things starting with PCB Design and Fabrication.
  • Much more about electronics and mosfets circuits.
  • New softwares related to my field of design like: GIMP, Inkscape, Prusa Slicer, Clipchamp, and Kdenlive.
  • Calibrating Sensors and powering pumps.
  • More knowledge than what I had in 3D printing and laser cutting.
