About me

Me

Hi! My name is María José Ballesteros Andraka but you can call me Majo :)

I'm 20 years old, currently in my 6th semester as an Industrial Design student at Ibero Puebla, México. I have always been an artsy kid, hence my love for drawing and making things, both digital and traditional. I have a love/hate relationship with watercolors, 'cus it's really unpredictable and I'm super perfectionist, but it has taught me to be patient, let go and enjoy the process. I also like skateboarding even though I'm afraid of falling, and I enjoy playing tennis.

Projects I'm proud of…

Senior EAT
Senior EAT is a feeding support kit designed for older adults with motor impairments, tremors, muscle weakness, or limited mobility in their upper limbs. It emerges as a response to functional challenges associated with aging and the need to reduce dependency during mealtime in domestic and family care contexts.

The kit integrates an ergonomic utensil with a widened handle and tip stabilizer, as well as an assisted plate with geometries that channel food and facilitate collection without requiring fine motor movements. This allows users to maintain control and safety while eating. Its design combines principles of ergonomics, accessibility, ethnographic research, and usability, with the aim of promoting autonomy, reducing spills, and improving the daily eating experience of older adults.

Made in collaboration with Karla Elizabeth Pichón Tapia.

Mobile sprinkler system for farmers
Designed for the physical well-being of farmers, due to the deterioration generated by the use of pest sprayers within the maintenance of crops. The proposal is a mobile pumped sprinkler system with a crank connecting rod operation as an alternative to spray backpacks, reducing direct exposure to pesticides, and promoting the use of biopesticides.

Made in collaboration with Greayshell Cielo Gómez, Alejandra Sofía de la Rosa Martínez, Julieta Hernández Cervantes, Valentina Quintana García.

2024 ASE I
Ride-on Toy (Arcane edition)
A ride-on toy adaptable for different ages, from 8 to 20. It features a system that allows the seat-to-pedal distance to be adjusted to three different lengths, extending the toy's useful life. The project was made as a personal gift for my siblings, allowing them to play without discomfort due to height and age difference.Through this project, I learned how to cut and weld metal.

Why joining Fab Academy?

Two years ago, Ibero Puebla hosted FAB 2024. I attended the conferences and workshops and was deeply inspired by the experience. I even had the opportunity to build a skateboard from scratch! That's why I see this as a valuable opportunity to learn from others and to develop my skills, particularly in electronics and programming, areas I am not yet familiar with but that could greatly enhance my projects.
