About me

My name is Gevorg. I am from Armenia, from the city of Gyumri. I work as an instructor in decorative and applied arts at the Gyumri Academy of Arts, where I focus on teaching and developing students’ artistic thinking, material exploration, and contemporary approaches to traditional crafts.

Participation in the FAB Academy is an important stage in my professional development. I aim to expand my technical and creative skills, master new digital and fabrication technologies, and integrate them into artistic and educational environments.

My goal is to apply the knowledge and experience gained to the development of the city of Gyumri and the National Academy of Arts, contributing to the renewal of educational methods, the creation of interdisciplinary projects, and the formation of an environment where traditional decorative and applied arts interact with modern technologies and innovation. I am convinced that this approach can become an important resource for the sustainable cultural and educational development of the region.

My background

I am participating in the Fab Academy to systematically develop my professional knowledge and practical skills in the field of digital fabrication and contemporary design. I plan to use the competencies I gain in my work with students, helping them master new technologies, think experimentally, and realize their own projects. In addition, it is important for me to be part of the process of creating and developing a new Fab Lab in the city of Gyumri — a space that will become a point of growth for education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the local community.

My Work

Before joining Fab Academy, I worked extensively with metal — forging, casting, and sculpting — combining traditional craft techniques with contemporary artistic thinking.

Bachelor’s Thesis — Rocking Chair

For my bachelor’s graduation project, I designed and hand-forged a rocking chair whose form is inspired by the silhouette and movement of a fish. The entire structure was made using traditional blacksmithing techniques, with organic curves and decorative metalwork that reflect the fluid, living quality of the source form.

Bachelor's thesis — forged rocking chair

Master’s Thesis — “Verelq” (Ascent)

My master’s graduation project was a large forged metal door titled Verelq (Armenian: Վերելք — Ascent). The composition is built around the motif of jellyfish rising upward, which for me represents striving, growth, and the upward movement of life. The door now serves as the entrance to the metal workshop of Fab Lab Gyumri — a fitting place for a work that grew out of the same spirit of making.

Master's thesis — "Verelq" door

Decorative Art Object — “Verelq”

Continuing the same theme, I created a freestanding decorative metal sculpture also titled Verelq. The jellyfish forms are rendered in forged and welded steel, reaching upward as if suspended in water. The piece was developed from an initial watercolor concept sketch, which helped me work out the composition and proportions before moving to metal.

Bachelor's thesis — watercolor
