19. Invention, intellectual property and income

  • Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
  • Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory

Learning outcomes

  • Formulate future opportunities

Have you?

  • Outlined future possibilities and described how to make them probabilities
  • Prepared a draft summary slide and video

Dissemination plan: The 1/7 DIY Racer

My project will and can be used by anyone who likes to learn and make stuff. Anyone should be able to pick the project and build it while making improvements, changes or personalizations. It’s intended to serve as a RC car platform that could be built on a low budget when compared with similar 1/7 scale cars available on the market.

So for this the project i choose to licence it under:

Creative Commons license (CC)

This way the project can be further shared across any fablab or diy community around the world. Create the oportunity to allow to improve the project based on other users, most welcome, feedback (and way to also keep learn more stuff for sure).

Create the oportunity for myself or any fablab to provide a packaged kit and sell it at a fair price for people to assemble and enjoy the RC car. This kit could be used also by any studdent learning from math to electronics or computer science (STEM).

If there’s demand for it, this could also be made available in other components to be used for example in more serious racing, like using carbon fiber frame.

By having a platform with base sensors that could be used for autonomous driving, it opens another range of oportunities.

For example another kit could be 1/7 autonomous racer, for easy access to learn about artificiall intelligence and race/compete to improve algoritms. The races could be circuit races, obstacle course, time-attack, etc. Or simply to develop and test software + hardware that could be used to create a pick-up & delivery car.

The existence of an “on a budget” and “easy” platform to explore some kind of vehicle, by itself, could open oportunities to develop products that could land in the real world.

Business Model

Buy, sort, make, package all pieces in a kit to sell to whoever wants to build a DIY Racer. Have several kit sizes from BOM list, Basic, Roller, RTR and a special one that allow user to customize it’s order.

Provide user support during assemble regarding instructions documentation, step-by-step.

Sell online to anyone and directly to labs.
