Work on the heliostat

This week I did

  • Design and 3D print a mount for the motor control PCB
  • Add a base with 3 adjustable feet for easy leveling
  • Write the program for the motor control board

I didn’t spend too much time on the presentation material so far as this will be my main focus next week. This week I created a simple draft slide and video:


This week was full of ups and downs.

I had fun designing and producing the PCB mount and the leveling feet and things worked out as I expected.

When I started writing the program to control the motors that would allow me to orient the mirror I soon realized that things were a bit more complicated than expected. It was frustrating when I did not manage to calculate the relationship between axis rotation and mirror angle but I’m happy that I found another approach that allowed me to find an approximate solution which is good enough for now.
