MECHANICAL DESIGN(part 1 of 2)

Group assignment:

  • Design a machine that includes mechanism + actuation + automation

  • Build the mechanical parts and operate it manually.

  • Document the group project.

Individual assignment:

  • Document your individual contribution.

1. GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Here you can see the Group Assignment

2. INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT

Make the group work plan. The tasks were distributed, but at each step there was collaboration between the team, giving feedback and advancing in their activities in parallel.

STAGES:

  • Design
  • Manufacturing
  • To assemble
  • Website
  • Video

Make a sketch to better express our design intentions. The main idea is to create panels that can rotate to create various scenarios of visual sensations. For this, the movement of these panels through a servomotor is proposed. These panels must have transparency and solidity properties to explore various textures. A wooden support for the window was erected.

Make small prototypes to explore the movement and weaves of the panels. Explore various vertical structures for panel movement. Wood, plastic and aluminum.

I made the gears and joining pieces in acrylic. It was exported from autocad to PDF. The file was opened in CorelDraw and executed on the laser cutting machine. The internal parameters of the 4mm acrylic cut were imported. Several models were printed until the vertical wooden structure fits into the holes of the gears. I made the acrylic panels. It was exported from autocad to PDF. The file was opened in CorelDraw and executed on the laser cutting machine. Internal 2mm acrylic cutting parameters were imported. I fabricated the MDF panels. It was exported from autocad to PDF. The file was opened in CorelDraw and executed on the laser cutting machine. The internal parameters of 2 mm wood cutting were imported. I made the base and the frame of the window from MDF. It was exported from autocad to PDF. The file was opened in Inkscape and saved in .SVG format. With the JSCUT Online application, the cutting code for the CNC milling machine was created.

Some manual tests were carried out for the correct operation of the mechanical gear system The fabric of the panels was explored creating different textures through movement.
