14. Invention, intellectual property and income

    assignment:
develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080)
  and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB)
and put them in your root directory

I do not plan on commercial distribution of my final project, and will distribute it through the FabLab network. I wanted to make the project as minimal and low power as possible, and ideally modular, so while I will not disseminate a completed plan or product, I think the basic componenets make for a successful project and are very open to redesign:

The essential project plan is:

  1. Electronics: an E ink display connected to an esp32 board and minimum 3.3v battery
  2. A frame made of laser cut slices that holds the display snug in place, and has an area for electronics and battery storage
  3. Backing to the frame that has several screws inserted, which on the interior are wired to ESP32 touch pins

That’s it! I would rather distribute this as a project idea rather than a product. I learned a lot from building the board myself, but in the future, I think this would make for a good quick project with premade esp32 boards. I additionally like that the display can then be programmed to do whatever you want!

The original plan for my final project was to make several units of differing sizes of the same concept. While I did not achieve this goal, I believe the design is open to working with different sized displays and chips because of the way the casing was designed. Made from laser cut slices and having the interior electronics rest rather loosely in the box allows for flexibility and quick redesigns.

Here is my final video and slide, documentation on making them can be found on my final project page
