Smart trapview

Background

Future agriculture will use sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors, aerial images, and GPS technology. These advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems will allow farms to be more profitable, efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly. In fact we can create and innovate without causing damages on our plant .I strongly believe that we can change the wolrd better throw the new technologies .

Inspiration

As an agricultural and plant protection engineer , my project of end studies was about pesticides .It was an opportunity to reveal how much these chemichal products harms our planet and our bodies Indeed, to quote the authors of one of the most renowned papers on the topic:

“What, then, is the effect of pesticides? Pesticides have created a legacy of pain, and misery, and death for farm workers and consumers alike. The crop which poses the greatest danger, and the focus of our struggle, is the table grape crop. These pesticides soak the fields. Drift with the wind, pollute the water, and are eaten by unwitting consumers. These poisons are designed to kill, and pose a very real threat to consumers and farm workers alike. Cesar Chavez”

Why to design a smart trapview ?

To prevent the use of pesticide in controlling phytophagous insect such an insect called the tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta presented in Tunisia wich the infestation causes yield losses of up to 100% on tomato, I decided to create a smart trapview

  • The pheromone awill be used to attract the insect
  • In the bottom I will put a stickey plate to trap the insect once getting inside
  • I will use camera to view the stickey plate and to take picture .These pictures will be sending to your smart phone . you can check if your field is attacked by this pest or now and you can understand the degree of the infestation from the number of insects that you will find without the necessity to to check the trap manually

Risk level Number of captured insects / week:

  • Sensors to detect (temperature, hmidity ) *Sensor to send the time
  • The components will b generated by a battery so you will be able to put this smart trap anywhere without the necessity for the electricity
Note : this trapview can be used to trap other insects (order lepidoptera ) by a simple step ;
You need just to change the pheremon capsule because every insect has a specific attractif !!

To trap insects, we usually use this kind of stickey plate yellow

To trap the insect we use a specific pheromone ( Chemical substance emitted by an individual (for example a sexual attraction )

Microcontroller

For my final project i will use atmega328p as a microcontroller to analyse data from devices and take the necessaey actions

Input device

DHt11 to collect data about temperature and moisture

Real time clock DS3231 to send the time

Output device

A servo motor to push the bottom of the camera at a specific time inside the trap

LCD to indicate the temperature and the moisture level
