About Me

Alison Yang

Hi! I’m Alison Yang, a community manager at Seeed Studio and Chaihuo Makerspace, based in Shenzhen, China.

I’ve been working in community roles for over five years, and I genuinely enjoy talking with people from different backgrounds. Through the community, I’ve learned so much about the world: festivals in India, daily life in Indonesia, sweats in Poland, beautiful oceans in South Africa, and the Alps in Austria, among many other places I haven’t visited yet. Even without traveling there, seeing the world through other people’s eyes has been an amazing experience.

I love organizing events, whether it’s a small gathering with friends or large-scale activities like Maker Faire Shenzhen and Interactive Signage Contest. I’m also the main coordinator of Ranger Program 3.0, working closely with makers and creators from around the world.

Although my academic background is in finance, I’ve always been fascinated by the maker world. I didn’t start with strong hardware or open-source skills, but the projects I’ve seen in the community, underwater robots, tiny drones, cute smart robots, and digital flowers really inspired me. That curiosity pushed me out of my comfort zone and led me to Fab Academy, where I hope to learn how to make things in a more systematic way.

Before Fab Academy, I worked on a few small projects, such as DIY earrings and wind chime, with great tutorial and hardware support from Seeed Studio, for which I’m truly grateful.

Outside of work and study, I enjoy spending time with my cat, writing, listening to music, and dancing 💃

If you ever come to Shenzhen, feel free to say hi! I’d love to meet up, share stories, and talk about making things together.
