About me

Me, as in the person behind the site.

Hi, i'm Pedro Candeias!

I was born in Braga, (sometimes sunny) Portugal, but my family moved to Macau (currently China) in the eighties, when I was at young age.

I grew up MAcau and returned to Portugal at the end of the 90's. I currently live in Porto...however, I will soon be relocating to Leon, Spain to pursue the Fab Academy 2023 course.

I have a degree in Multimedia and work as a programmer at the University of Porto.

In my free time, I enjoy sailing, walking trails, reading graphic novels and cooking. I even took a 6-month intensive cooking course at a culinary arts school, and this week my current favorite dish is Ramen.

I'm not much of a morning person, but do enjoy daylight as I am a sun person.

To sum it up, I belive I am a multi-talented individual with a diverse background and interests.

Why do the Fab Academy course?

I like to make things. Like to learn new stuff and new skills.

I've been playing around with 3D printers and Arduinos for the last couple of years, so I eventually figured it was time to try Fab Academy and get the skills to build pretty much anything.

I took a leave of one year from work to do this course, so I'm really looking forward to it.

For fun...

I've made some pretty silly "inventions" throught the years, like the "Saint John's plastic hammer for people who are not in Porto during Saint John's night".

São João (that's how it's called in Portuguese) is the most important and traditional celebration (aside from Christmas) in the city of Porto (and also Braga, the city where I was born).

It takes place every year on the night of June 23rd to 24th, in honor of Saint John the Baptist, who is not the patron saint of the city.

During this festivity, the streets of Porto come alive with an array of activities and traditions. One of the most iconic customs of São João is the use of martelinhos, small plastic hammers with which people playfully bump each other on the head, a sign of good luck and well wishes for the year ahead.

By the way, here's the student agreement I signed:
