Roland CAMM-1 GS-24 Vinyl Cutter

Quick-Reference Operator Card

1. Pre-Flight Safety & Setup Checklist

  • [ ] APPROVED MEDIA ONLY: Standard PVC Sign Vinyl, Heat-Transfer Vinyl (HTV), Adhesive Copper Foil, or approved Cardstock. PROHIBITED: Thick magnet sheets, unapproved plastics, or heavy rubber without a carrier mat.
  • [ ] PINCH ROLLER ALIGNMENT: Slide both pinch rollers directly over the textured grit roller tracks (marked by blue decals). Operating off-track causes media slippage and destroys the drive rubber.
  • [ ] BLADE EXTENSION: The blade tip should extend only 0.1\text{ mm} - 0.2\text{ mm} out of the holder (about half the thickness of a credit card). Excess extension gouges the cutting strip.
  • [ ] CLEANING PROTOCOL: NEVER use compressed air. Vacuum debris and wipe the white Teflon cutting strip with 70\% or 99\% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) using a microfiber cloth.

2. Standard 5-Step Vinyl Cutting Workflow

  1. VECTOR ARTWORK PREPARATION
  2. Convert artwork paths to hairline strokes (0.001\text{ in} / 0.025\text{ mm}). Convert all fonts to outlines.
  3. FOR HTV / APPAREL: Mirror the artwork horizontally before sending it to the cutter.
  4. LOAD MEDIA & ALIGN PINCH ROLLERS Load media roll or sheet from the rear. Move pinch rollers directly under the blue grit roller guides, then lift the rear loading lever to lock.
  5. MEDIA SENSING & BLADE OFFSET Select ROLL or PIECE on the panel and press ENTER to measure media width. Verify BLADE OFFSET: set to 0.250 mm for standard 45^\circ blades or 0.500 mm for 60^\circ deep-cut blades.
  6. FORCE TEST CUT Hold the TEST button for 1 second. Peel the outer square of the test cut: it must separate cleanly from the inner circle without slicing through the backing paper liner. Adjust FORCE (gf) as needed.
  7. EXECUTE & WEED Send the file from CutStudio or vector software. After cutting, weed excess vinyl using a weeding pick tool, apply application transfer tape, and squeegee firmly.

3. Media Substrates, Speeds & Downforce Matrix

Media Substrate Blade Angle Blade Offset Downforce (gf) Cut Speed (cm/s) Operational Rule
Standard Sign Vinyl (PVC) 45^\circ 0.250\text{ mm} 60 - 90\text{ gf} 20 - 30\text{ cm/s} Clean kiss-cut; backing paper lightly scored; easy weeding.
Heat-Transfer Vinyl (HTV) 45^\circ 0.250\text{ mm} 80 - 110\text{ gf} 20\text{ cm/s} MUST MIRROR ARTWORK. Cuts film; leaves clear carrier intact.
Adhesive Copper Foil 45^\circ or 60^\circ 0.250\text{ mm} 40 - 60\text{ gf} 5 - 10\text{ cm/s} Low speed prevents tearing fine copper trace lines (\<0.5\text{ mm}).
Cardstock / Paper 60^\circ 0.500\text{ mm} 150 - 220\text{ gf} 10\text{ cm/s} Full cut-through requires a sticky carrier mat to protect strip.
Reflective / Flock Film 60^\circ 0.500\text{ mm} 180 - 250\text{ gf} 10 - 15\text{ cm/s} Heavy downforce; check carbide blade tip wear frequently.

4. Rapid Troubleshooting & Recovery

Issue / Error Root Cause Immediate Corrective Action
Vinyl Tears or Lifts During Cut Blade extended too far, force too high, or dull blade. Retract blade tip in holder; reduce downforce or replace the 45^\circ carbide blade.
Corners Rounded or “Horns” Formed BLADE OFFSET setting incorrect in panel. Increase offset if corners are rounded; decrease if corners form outward loops/horns.
Jagged / Skipped Cut Lines Damaged white Teflon cutting strip. Inspect the white strip under the blade track for grooves or deep cuts and replace if pitted.
