Canon imagePROGRAF iPF670 Printer

Quick-Reference Operator Card

1. Pre-Flight Safety & Setup Checklist

  • [ ] APPROVED MEDIA ONLY: 20\text{ lb} - 24\text{ lb} Bond Paper, 24\text{ lb} - 32\text{ lb} Heavyweight Coated Paper, Matte/Glossy Photo Stock, Translucent Vellum, or Polyester Film. PROHIBITED: Cardboard (>0.8\text{ mm} thick), fabric with frayed threads, or torn paper edges.
  • [ ] LEVER & SKEW CONTROL: Always raise the orange media leverage lever before loading or adjusting paper. Lower it to lock the feed. Never force paper through with the lever down.
  • [ ] NO PRINT HEAD TOUCHING: Never touch or wipe the bottom nozzle face of the PF-04 print head. The 15,360 microscopic nozzles scratch easily and are sensitive to electrostatic discharge.
  • [ ] NO COMPRESSED AIR: NEVER use compressed air inside the carriage enclosure. Blowing air forces paper dust and dried ink into optical sensors and carriage bearings. Always vacuum or use a dry microfiber cloth.

2. Standard 5-Step Large-Format Printing Workflow

  1. PREPARE FILE & DRIVER SETTINGS Open artwork or CAD drawing. Select the Canon iPF670 Driver, choose paper size (ARCH A-D or custom roll size), set source to Roll Paper, and match the media profile to the physical roll (e.g., Universal Coated Paper).
  2. LOAD ROLL MEDIA Lift the orange media lever. Insert the paper roll onto the holder shaft (feeding from top toward front). Insert the leading edge into the feed slot until the platen roller grips it. Lower the orange lever.
  3. SELECT MEDIA TYPE ON FRONT PANEL On the LCD screen, select the exact media category loaded (Plain Paper, Coated Paper, Heavyweight Matte, Film). The printer will auto-feed, align, and detect roll width.
  4. RUN NOZZLE CHECK (FIRST PRINT OF THE DAY) Navigate to Menu \rightarrow Test Print \rightarrow Nozzle Check. Inspect the printed grid pattern. If white lines or missing color blocks appear, run a Head Cleaning A.
  5. EXECUTE PRINT & AUTO-CUT Send the file from CAD or graphic software. Monitor the job on the LCD panel. Wait for the automatic rotary cutter to slice the page cleanly into the catcher basket before retrieving it.

3. Media Profiles, Resolution & Vacuum Matrix

Substrate Media Driver Profile Setting Resolution (dpi) Vacuum Strength Key Operational Rule
20\text{ lb} Standard Bond Plain Paper 600 \times 600\text{ dpi} Standard Fast line check plots; lowest ink consumption.
24\text{ lb} - 32\text{ lb} Coated Paper Coated Paper 1200 \times 1200\text{ dpi} Standard Crisp vector lines and solid color without paper cockling.
Heavy Matte / Poster Heavyweight Matte 1200 \times 1200\text{ dpi} Strong Rich presentation graphics; allow 60s ink dry time in basket.
Translucent Vellum / Film Drafting Film / Vellum 2400 \times 1200\text{ dpi} Lowest Maximum black density (D_{max} > 3.0) for PCB exposure masks.
Adhesive Vinyl / Synthetic Synthetic Paper 1200 \times 1200\text{ dpi} Lowest Prevents heavy media from dragging across the platen.

4. Rapid Troubleshooting & Recovery

Issue / Error Root Cause Immediate Corrective Action
Horizontal White Streaks (Banding) Clogged nozzles or misaligned print head. Run Nozzle Check, execute Head Cleaning A, then perform Auto Head Adj. with coated paper.
Paper Puckering / Head Strike Smears Excessive ink saturation on thin paper. Change driver profile from Plain Paper to Coated Paper or Heavyweight Matte to adjust ink limits.
Media Skew Error on Loading Leading edge cut unevenly or lever lowered off-center. Lift orange lever, trim roll edge square using a utility knife, reload, and lower lever.
