Shining 3D Einstar Rigil¶
Quick-Reference Operator Card¶
1. Pre-Flight Safety & Setup Checklist¶
- [ ] OPTICAL EYE SAFETY: Never point the scanner or bright LED/VCSEL light sources directly into anyone’s eyes.
- [ ] CABLE SAFETY: Attach the wrist lanyard to your wrist before picking up the unit to prevent drops.
- [ ] OPTICS CARE: Inspect camera lenses and projector glass. Never touch optics with bare fingers; clean only with optics wipes.
- [ ] GPU CONNECTION: Ensure the USB 3.0 / power cable is plugged into the workstation’s dedicated NVIDIA GPU port.
- [ ] CALIBRATION CHECK: Perform geometry and white balance calibration if the unit was moved or precision metrology (\<0.05\text{ mm}) is required.
- [ ] SPRAY VENTILATION: Apply anti-glare spray (AESUB) only inside the spray booth—never near open optics or PC intake fans.
2. Standard 5-Step Scanning & RE Workflow¶
- SURFACE PREPARATION & ALIGNMENT STRATEGY Apply AESUB spray to dark, shiny, or transparent parts. Apply 6.0\text{ mm} reflective target markers (\ge 5 visible per frame) for featureless geometric shapes.
- EXSTAR PROJECT SETUP Select Mode (Small Object / Blue Light or Large Object / IR) and Alignment (Feature, Marker, or Hybrid). Set resolution (0.2\text{ mm} fine, 0.5\text{ mm} structural).
- SCANNING & DISTANCE CONTROL Keep distance indicator in the Green Zone (\approx 300 - 400\text{ mm}). Sweep smoothly in overlapping passes perpendicular to the surface.
- MESH GENERATION & EXPORT Crop floating noise, select Watertight (solid model) or Unwatertight (open surface), apply smoothing/hole fill, and export as .stl or .obj.
- (OPTIONAL) REVERSE ENGINEERING IN CAD Import .stl into CAD. Fit primitive planes/axes, create cross-section slices, trace constrained parametric sketches, and verify tolerances using a color deviation map.
3. Surface Conditions & Alignment Selection Matrix¶
| Surface Condition | Scanner Mode | Alignment Strategy | Required Surface Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark / Black Plastic | Infrared VCSEL | Feature / Hybrid | Increase camera exposure slider in EXStar. |
| Shiny / Polished Metal | Blue Light Crosses | Feature / Marker | Required: Spray lightweight coat of AESUB scan spray. |
| Glass / Clear Acrylic | Blue Light Crosses | Feature / Marker | Required: Spray full matte coat of AESUB scan spray. |
| Symmetric / Smooth Cylinder | Blue / IR Mode | Marker Alignment | Apply randomized 6.0\text{ mm} reflective markers (20-50\text{ mm} apart). |
| Organic Shapes / Casts | Blue / IR Mode | Feature Alignment | Scan directly using natural surface contours. |
4. Rapid Troubleshooting & Diagnostics¶
| Issue | Likely Cause | Corrective Action | Verification Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracking Lost / Frame Frozen | Scanner moved too fast or lost marker view (\<5 markers visible). | Return scanner to a previously scanned feature-rich area to resume tracking. | EXStar tracking status turns green and point cloud updates. |
| Red Over-Exposure on Feed | Brightness setting too high or direct glare. | Lower exposure slider on scanner handle or EXStar interface. | Red highlight patches disappear from real-time camera view. |
| Mesh Has Unwanted Holes | Surface skipped during scan or angle too steep. | Re-scan missing area or enable Hole Filling during mesh generation. | Final 3D preview shows continuous watertight surface. |
