Invention, Intellectual Property and Income¶

Learning outcomes¶
- Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
- Complete your final project, tracking your progress
- Develop a plan to share your work
- Formulate future opportunities and/or development for your final project
- Summarize and communicate the essence of your project development
My understanding for the terms in this week¶
- Invention: A new and useful solution developed to address a specific problem.
- Income: Revenue or financial value generated from my project or innovation.
- Intellectual Property (IP): Intellectual property is the legal protection given to creations of the mind, such as inventions, designs, software, artistic works, and trademarks.
Ethiopian IPO¶
IPO (Ethiopia): The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA), responsible for protecting and managing intellectual property rights in Ethiopia. My project is opensource to any one who wanna to modify it or re use but needs to attribute fabacademy final project under my .
My final project plan for dissemination and to share my work¶
The local problem show that its possibility for marketable. My final project is a theft detection system for car parts (In below master slide ppt, I tried to put the license type), particularly the car side mirror, which is vulnerable to theft in my city. Using a Hall Effect sensor in the side mirror housing to detect a magnet attached to the back of the mirror, an alarm will be triggered when the sensor detects a distance greater than a threshold value. A Xiao ESP32 C3 processes the sensor signal and activates an LED.

AS DEMO VIDEO I USED THE FOLLOWING FOR THE FP¶
My plan for disseminating “YeFab Leba Trap” is to document the complete comment from professor Neil, design, fabrication process, and source files on my Fab Academy website so that others can learn from and reproduce the project as fabacademy policy allowed.
The demonstrations, and fablab online platforms to reach makers, students, and innovators interested in anti-theft solutions. As example of fabrication I PLANNED to teach early stage startups for their MVP development too. By publishing the hardware designs, code, and documentation as open-source resources, I hope to encourage collaboration, feedback, and future improvements by the wider digital fabacademy community and my instructor Rico.
I suggested improvement to use more audible buzzer in my prototype¶
The audio level in the video was actually decreased due to it disturbing noise. Professor Neil recommend to use the driver from our out put device week. I will check the week for integration with my project in the future development to.
I plan to commercialize as income in the local market¶
Using the market research in the car mirrors in Addis Ababa then I plan to commercialize as income in the local market. If the market available and and production cost is fit loss and gain margin .. it is ready to manufactured .... but in Ethiopia the electronics supply chain is challenging by now and working hard to overcome those challenge with the skill I gain in my fabacadamy journey.
License (Creative common License)¶
Creative common License chooser
After my instructor direction to use the creative commons to choose the license type … I visit the creative web and fill the form available there. I chose in my case, the most appropriate Creative Commons license is: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)

I learned a lot in this week¶
- I understood the importance of protecting inventions through appropriate intellectual property rights and licensing and local law and who is the responsible, I used the creative commons after my instructor advised me.
- I learned how to select a suitable Creative Commons license to share my final project while receiving proper attribution.
- I developed a dissemination plan to document, publish, and present my final project to the Fab Academy community and the public.
- I explored future opportunities for improving, commercializing, and expanding my final project beyond Fab Academy.
- I also learned how to communicate the purpose, impact, and value of my project clearly to different audiences. And I see the concerns needed during project finalization and commercialize it.
