Licensing:

I want to begin this week’s work with a brief entry about intellectual property. While this is not a mandatory requirement, I find the topic to be highly relevant.

In this week’s class one of the most interesting concepts for me was the distinction explained by Neil between copyrights and patents. It became clear to me that at this point in the development of my final project a patent is probably unnecessary. A Copyright license on the other hand may easily be used to establish fair conditions for the use of my design.

Following the work of my colleague Daniel Ughelli, I decided to use a Creative Commons license for my final project.

I have chosen a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license, because I am interested in allowing for free use, and distribution both in academic and non for profit projects, while preserving commercial rights.

This is my licence:

Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project

Following the conclusion of Fab Academy, I want to work on the dissemination of my project in the following ways

a) Discussions with peers in the Fab Academy network, and other academics:

I am interested in talking with people presently working on the development of machines and platforms for sustainable agriculture. The goal here is to show the work done, and ask for feedback and suggestions.

b) Discussions with farmers:

I am interested in talking with producers from farming cooperatives, and obtaining user feedback from them, in order to adjust and improve the project.

c) Discussions with possible investors or sources of financial resources:

After incorporating the feedback of the first two rounds of conversations (academics and farmers) I want to advance to a third stage of sharing the project with possible investors or institutions that may help to fund the project, such as international cooperation agencies, the national council of science in Paraguay, Development banks, etc.
