FABLAB MANDALA

About

Kuzu-zangpola! My name is Pema and I am from Bhutan.
I hold a Bachelors Degree in Education and work as an Edutech teacher in Fablab Bhutan.I graduated from Paro Collge of Education. After my graduation, I taught in a private school. I enjoyed every moment with my students, learning alongside them and then the pandemic took place. After that every session took place online. This sudden shift from teaching in person to online made me realise the importance of digital and technology literacy.

I was following Fablab Bhutan since its innaugration back in 2017 and I was amazed with the idea of Fablabs, digital fabrication and the impact it had on the community. So with the help from Fablab Bhutan team, I was introduced to Mr.Amit from Pune, who introduced me to 3D designing and basic coding.AFter that I joined Fablab Bhutan to pursue my STEAM Education. The start was definetly a rough road since I did not have basics but then with the wonderful support from Fablab Bhutan and the well wishers, I am learning more then I hoped I would. While in Fablab Bhutan, in collaboration with UNICEF Bhutan and Ministry of Education, we trained five Youth Centers across Bhutan and more than 100 youths on 3D designing and printing. The idea of being able to share the little knowledge I gained from Fablab Bhutan motivated me further to learn more so that I can share and learn with the youths and those who are interested to learn.

Besides giving various trainings to different walks of life, I was also working for the Fab17. We were soo excited to welcome the Fab17 in July and was looking forward to it but due to the uncertain situation here due to the pandemic, it got differed. Nonetheless, happy that its happening next year and keeping our fingers crossed that the situation improves.

Hobbies?
Hmm... I sometimes wonder, if anyone even has a fixed hooby. I keep changing mine and it's hard to keep up.LOL But from many of my hobbies, I love house plants, planting them and taking care of it. To watch the growth in them makes me hopeful and sometimes I stare at it for no good reasons and yet it makes me feel good.I feel like I have killed more plants than grown them but they say, best garderners kill the most plants.

Trekking & Travelling. I trekked alot when I was in college and loved how the mountains made me feel. It feels like ages since I trekked now. As soon as am am done with Fab Academy, thats the first thing I want to do.

Reading. I binge read if there's any good novel I like and can also go on without reading for years. One of my favourite good read till now is "The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari" by Robin Sharma

And Grettings from my son!!!

Final Project

The part after this will lead you to my final product. The project is based on the wearable electronics concept. The fundamental idea is to integrate LEDs in the scarf and build the kabney with a laser mesh cutter. A kabney is a silk scarf used as part of the traditional male Bhutanese attire, the gho. Raw silk with fringes, usually 90 by 300 centimetres (35 in x 118 in). The traditional coat gho is worn over the kabney.
