  • Sessions Date: 26th Jan, 2022
  • Assignment: Plan and sketch a potential final project

And it begins

Yaay!!! Been excited about Fabacademy since day one and now that is has begun, I am nervous, anxious and definetly excited. Time to wreck my head.LOL!

Final Project "A wearable electronic scarf with brooch"

For my final project I want to do something fun with our traditional mans ceremonial scarf "Kabney".
    Fun facts
  1. When visiting the dzong or government offices bearing the national flag, Bhutanese will wear the national costume with ceremonial scarves.
  2. Men will wear a silk scarf called a kabney from left shoulder to the hip.
  3. The rank of the bearer will determine the colour of kabney
  4. The commoners will wear a white kabney
  5. If you happen to visit the sacred places without Kabney, you can use a rope and wear it like a kabney to enter these places.

Why?

  • To integrate technology with tradition
  • My main motive behind fabacademy is to have fun while learning and to experiment with things.
  • Ideas

  • With the help of laser mesh cutting, cut the polyester fabric
  • Laser cut the eight lucky signs and sew it to the scarf
  • Integrate the scarf with LEDS all over. I am thinking of using stripe LEFS
  • 3D scan a traditional mask and make it a brooch. This mask will serve as a controller for the led.
  • This scarf can be used two in one. One a ceremonial scarf for man and also as a scarf during chilly days. With a lil bit of dazzle!

    Things I will need

  • Polyester Fabrics. In white for scarf, and in prime colors for the eight lucky signs
  • Stipe clothing LEDS
  • battery
  • electronic components for controller
  • Who will use it?

Since this is a two in one scarf, both man and women who are looking for a little bit of bling and fashion could use it.

    Plan B

sketch of final Project Skecth This sketch is made in sketchpad

Besides the mans ceremonial scarf, I also have an idea to work on womens ceremonial scarf, "Rachu"

      Fun facts
    1. A Rachu, a long scarf, is worn by females as a mark of respect while attending formal gatherings or visiting temples.
    2. It is worn just over the Toego and goes well with the overall outfit.
    3. It is usually red in colour with different patterns and designs.
    4. The rank of the bearer will determine the colour of kabney or rachu that he or she wears.
    5. The females will wear colourful rachu with intricate design.

    Bonus

  • If you happen to visit a Dzong in white colored shoes or in your sneakers, you will either have to walk barefoot from the main entrance or go home. Sharing form my personal experience.LOL!!! Always wear formal shoes but not in white color.
  • Ideas

The idea is the same thing as that of the mans ceremonial scarf but this one will have lots of color and pattern. Instead of a white fabric I will use red fabric for the main scarf and use different colors for the eight lucky signs. Unlike the mans scarf I will be cutting the Eight Lucky Sign patterns using vinyl cutter. Skecth Image of the Eight Lucky Signs.

    What will it do?

With the help of LED, when you put the contoller on, the scarf will give out a really bright glow. If the wearer doesn't want the LED on, they will have the choice to put it off and still have the beautiful texture and pattern on it.

    Who will use it?

Women and I plan to wear it during my graduation ceremony! ;)
