Hello! Welcome to my personal site for the Fab Academy!
My name is Xiaolin Zhen (甄曉琳), but please feel free to call me Linda. I was born in China and now live in Eastern Massachusetts in the United States. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) that will be completed in May 2021. I am particularly interested in the problem-solving process, especially in assistive technology, which positively affects human lives.
Since I was a child, I have had a big interest in sewing—one of my favorite childhood memories was watching my mom use her vintage Singer sewing machine 😄. Upon graduating from college, I bought a sewing machine, and my first project was a graduation cap and gown for my teddy bear!
My previous academic and professional experiences focused on mechanical design, but I have limited experience in circuit design and no experience in app creation. I am thankful to be able to join the Fab Academy with the generous support of Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS Corporation. I want to seize this opportunity to learn and experiment with the different digital fabrication processes adopted by students from various backgrounds. This six-month course will allow me to broaden and amplify my creative thinking skills.
