Osar Mas
To see : MatterMachine
Karitas from Iceland
Franco from puebla
XDesign is solidworks like but in the browser, and use Catia engine
Other tools used:
Ohad said we could look for voxel print in youtube link here
the challenge is to make a 1000$ voxel printer
rutvij AR project Unity
Neil looks excited by AR and Unity. He recommands to take a look at three.js webVR
3dbear.io AR for kids
Class
Vinyle cutter is probably the most usefull, most ignore tool in our labs
laser lasersaur is a 1000$ diy laser cutter fablight 60k$ and so on
plasma are (torchmate) are fairly dangerous (but fun !)
water jets (omax, flow) 100k$ machines, wazer DIY (5k$)
hot wire cnc foam cutter diy (mt2m) wire edm 100k$ mtm dwedm
focus on vynile and laser
important week to be parametric becaus of material thickness
in freecad, sketcher workshop, make a squer with 2 slots (constrainted) see video edit number depending on thickness (extrusion) (but you can add a speadsheet)
fusion and sw are parametrics
in antimony use script for variables
for this week we need one of this parametric design tool
then we need to use CAM
each machine comes with its printer driver (neil is not a fan of them)
mods is aims to talk directly to the machine, could be used for vynile and laser, this is an open framework
vinyle cutter
with vinyle cutter we can make origami, cut copper to make circuit (see video)
application: todo: sticker for your labtop origami or kirigami shirtscircuits$see inventory budnick converting 3m #1 epoxy tape to make flexible circuit ** copper with conductive glue ** transfer sand glass (used as pochoir)
be carefull at the force used
see honghao deng (2017 sutend video)
assignment: Make anything on vinyle cutter
go to output class for multilayer vinyle cut circuits
laser
in fabmodule we can screen print halftone
group assignment: make a press fit using laser cutter
there are a lot of joints : look at joints.jpg (class) $a better design is to create a chamfer
\ / | | —-
chamfer is mucher easer to align
better than chamfer is a little bump ()
a bit better is flexible is a little bean that goes into the slot
even better pins joints
the clearance around the material
you can make things that bend (called curfing) flexures
TODO: 2dof motion platform see 56836505.pdf
extension inkscape “living hinge creator”
laser is ligt amplification
CO² laser has a gain medium at 10.6µ fiber at 1µ (fiber laser car engrave pcb)
when you use a laser, the material is going somewhere and you need to aware of where goes the material. The air flow is really important ! no smoke inside the machine.
If you smell your laser cutter output, you breath chemical, you have to wait
kerf ?? you need to define offset to press fit
Safety
the Y belt broke, the spot put the machine in fire, and then the building.
You can never turn your back to the laser cutter.
Materials
cardboard is great
if it kinks, it’s bad for laser if it bump (heavy) it’s ok
heavy duty pads are great
50w laser cutter is enough to cut 3m plywod cutting acrylic is popular (but not recyclable) acrylic is easy to heat and bend (heater wire)
see laser origami stefanie Mueller (youtube)
derlin acetal homopolymer
pc is bad pvc is really bad ()
** don’t laser cut random plastic **
** never put anything shiny **
if the lens is dirty, the lens can explode, you need to keep it clean
group assignment: do some tests on laser cutter, and document them mesure the beam of the laser
anodised aluminium is
ferdi talks about a dot peeking project
