Hi! I’m Yoshi. I’m a Maker and working in management at a Japan subsidiary of an open-source hardware company.

I’ve been so into electronics since my elementary school age. In my high school age, my interest went to the internet. After that, at university, I started my own business (and left univ.). I developed software and built network servers and almost forgot about soldering.

Around 2009, one of my friends told me about Arduino. I was so surprised because when I was a junior high school student, we needed a ROM writer and UV ROM eraser to program microcontrollers. For now, we just need USB and microcontrollers are 32bit and have flash memory!! Technology improvement brought convenient environment for the people!! This improvement reignited my passion for embedded.

As a Maker

As a Maker, I enjoyed joining Maker Faire around the world. Here is something I just found from my album.

3D printer

Atom

I built a few 3D printers but this is the first one. This is Atom, a RepRap 3D printer designed by a Japanese guy. I printed out 3D print parts, purchased components separately and built it. It was around 2013. For now, I love Bambu 3D printers.

Dev board

mbed LPC1114

Arm developed their rapid prototyping platform named “mbed” in 2005. I love this environment and added support for several MCUs. This was the first project of porting. I did this with one Arm employee in Japan and an Arm intern in the UK in the summer of 2013. We ported in 2 weeks and it so impressed the mbed team.

I designed and manufactured dev board of mbed LPC1114 in 2014. One of the characteristics of mbed is drag-n-drop programming like micro:bit. (micro:bit is also from mbed team) To make this happen, we need to develop a firmware for the interface chip of mbed LPC1114. It wasn’t open-source in 2013 but it became open-sourced in 2014, this is why I designed this board in 2014.

Sadly, Arm Mbed project is going to be shut down on July 2026. We have FAB26 in July 2026, and 2014 is the year I visited MIT to attend MIT Mini Maker Faire.

As a (student) pilot

Flying with Cessna 172

A new thing I’ve been working on since last year is receiving private pilot training. Another interest of mine is aviation, and I really want to have a pilot license. I started this from June 2025, and suspending this due to finishing Fab Academy🤣
