FAB ACADEMY 2014 Invention, Intellectual property and Income

The reason i decided to make this project is because i developed some interest in programming languages like PD or Max. So i decided to experiment with these tools and then realized the needs for a physical controller because the GUI can be sometimes a little difficult to work around specially when using a mouse.

My project will be distributed under an open source and open hardware license , the main reason is because I’m using arduino to program the board and the board is also based on Arduino. Another reason could be that i realizaed that mi design may be expandable to other input interfaces and not only the touchpad, maybe someone could add a touchscreen or some flex potentiometers, the same applies to the Max Patch.

My plan is to keep researching on Max and then go to it’s freeware version, Pure Data, the same applies to the hardware but instead on going only through the Arduino way I pretend to go over Raspberry too.

But the question reminds about how could I get incomes from an open Source/Hardware project? I've seen some similar projects like the ones from bleeplabs, even when they distribute their products under open licenses they still have a site and affiliates where their synthesizers are being sold.
