Fusion 360

Introduction

Fusion360 is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program that runs on Windows and macOS. Fusion360 is published by Autodesk. The particularity of this software is that it use the cloud technology to store your files and make it easy to collaborate and work together on a same project.

Presentation of the parts

For the MakerFight 2019 ( a competition of robot animated by Technistub, a french FabLab), we hacked some drill to take drill motors with their reductors. To design the robot and the parts we need to make ( 3D print, laser cutted, …), I have to make a 3D modelization of this drill motor. I find a modelization on GrabCaD but it’s not exactly the same model. So … Let’s go !

Video

To show you my work, this time, I recorded my screen and made a video posted on Youtube. The speed of the video is x4, so you can, directly on youtube, increase the speed if you want, or slow down to the realtime speed ( x0.25 ). And of course, you can watch it at the normal speed and enjoy the music “Canals” by Joakim Karud 😄

Result

Below, you can see the result of the modelization in 3D of my drill motor with the reductor. You can download the part if you want to see how I did it.

Did I recommend Fusion 360 ?

Clearly, if you need a CAD software with all the functionalities of a pro software like solidworks, and if you need to work on a team, with a lot of people working or using the same parts, it’s the best choice and best software you could have for the price ( free for makers and student, but the licence price is not quite expensive if you are a pro ).
