I tried to build a packing for the 3d printed pieces of the Printrbot 3D printer. CloneWars is an spanish 3D printing community. To be part of this community you only have to build your own 3D printer.
One person from the community donated me the kit of 3d printed pieces of the Printrbot. Now, as I am finnishing my 3D printer, I am part of the community, and I have to donate to other new member the pieces for his or her next 3d Printer.
I decide to design a packing of these pieces that would help to remind the new member that he or she has to donate pieces next. This is what I attempt, but it does not seam that 3d printing is the good technique for this object. It needs too much material. 
3D scanning
3D scanning: 123DCatch
After 1 day trying to make the kinect xbox 360 works on my 10.6 Mac 0S X computer, without any success I decided to use the kinect on a windows computer. I installed a software that allows me to test if the kinect was working correctly.
Then I installed reconstructme, but it closed everytime I tried to make it work; so finally I decided to use the Autodesk 123D catch software on the web for the 3D scanning. These are the steps I followed:
1. Take pictures of the object I want to scann.
2. Upload pictures at the 123DCatch site.
3. Once the site procesate the images, there is a 3D view avalilable:
4. As it can be seen on the image the result it is not very closed to the real object that has been scanned. Maybe pictures were taken from a too far point of view. From the 123D Catch we download the stl file.
Working with meshs
1. Download Netfabb at www.netfabb.com.
2. Open the stl file with Netfabb:
3. There is an option to repair meshs to close small gaps the mesh has.
Netfabb has many interesting options to work with meshs, I think I can stay for a week only exploring possibilities.
