Final Project

Lightninig detector.

For my final project, I am planning to make a portable lightining detector that can detect lightning strikes within 40km radius. It can give an early warning alert to the user so that precautions can be made.

The following is the hand sketch of the detector including the electronic components to be used.

Electronic components to be used

1. Lightning sensor

The AS3935 is a fully integrated programmable lightning sensor IC that detects the existence and approach of potentially hazardous lightning activity in the vicinity and estimates the distance to the storm’s head. The inbuilt lightning algorithm examines the incoming signal pattern to rule out any possible man-made interference.

2. OLED 4 Pin display module

Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays, unlike LCD displays, do not require a backlight and are considered the ultimate technology for the next generation of flat panel displays. A thin, multi-layered organic film is sandwiched between an anode and cathode, both of which are formed of electric conductive transparent Indium Tin Oxide. A Hole Transporting Layer, Emission Layer, and Electron Transporting Layer make up the multi-layered organic film.

By applying an appropriate electrical voltage, the holes and electrons are injected into the Emission Layer from the anode and cathode respectively and combine to form excitons, after which electroluminescence occurs.

3. Crowtail vibration motor

It is used to make sound / alert when the lighting strikes are detected.
