Final Presentation

Summary of the final project

As part of the Fab Academy, my final project was to produce an individualized product. I came across an office chair that still has a lot of potential. Some days I sit on an office chair for more than 12 hours, a lot of time on a chair that is not so comfortable. If you extrapolate that, we spend 230 working days a year on a chair in a 5-day week after deducting holidays. When we have a job that requires it. That’s 1840 hours a year, which is a lot. In this context, the office chair is an important everyday object which is used intensively and which, despite the digital age, is still analogue and thus holds untapped potential. So my goal is to build a smart and individualized chair as a final project.

In the end, I concentrated on the essential features, but implemented them as well as possible in the time frame. The seat was individualized to match my buttocks. Conductive filament was integrated into the seat by using two-material printing, which made pressure mapping possible. This allows me to derive my sitting behaviour. These data are all stored on a storage card. Via the armrest I control a counter to the Pomodoro technique. A vibration motor signals via vibrations after 25 minutes that the working time is paused. The total time can be read on an OLED display.

In the future I will further optimize this first prototype. If someone is interested in a cooperation, feel free to contact me.
