Plan and sketch a potential final project

Describe what will it do and who will use it

In the beginning, I had a few different ideas of the final project - from mini size printer to automating my router. I already got atracted to making a sort of slide capturing camera for laptop but it seemed to involve more software than manufacturing hardware so, I changed one more time. Thanks to another suggestion, the idea I finally ended is to design a rack for 3D scanner. Freehand usable 3D scanner have seemed to be quite challenging to manage even though trying several different ways of doing the scanning - from moving freely around the object to keeping the scanner still and rotating the object.

Designing a rack for 3D scanner as a final project makes sense for me in several ways. First of all, I have got most attracted in when building a machine, by which you can create a next thing. Secondly, I have just bought my first 3D printer so why not create 'an extension' for it. Thirdly, I love photographing and later on, there is a possibility to develop this rack further to use it with camera - either furthermore for 3D scanning or then just photographing small objects. Ben Heck - "A Man with a Scan" - and his 3D Scanner will provide me more inspiration on my way.

The rack I waas going to build would have stand on the table with one leg. Above the leg would have been a 360 degree rotable rack for holding the scanner in two or three positions on a side and above the object. The track could have be used for more precise quick 3D modelling. It could have been helpful and speed up the rocess when aiming to model (and remodel) very detailed objects. It is useful also for digital archives of 3D models.

Added afterward:

I was not fully satisfied about the idea of making a rack for a 3D scanner. This is because, based on my own trials during the Week 6 as well as some of my fellow students experience it is not obvious to make the scanning itself work. If I can't make scanning work at least almost every time it will be hard to figure out if the problem is in scanning process or in the functioning of a rack. This is why I thought to change the topic of my final project.
