Computer-Controlled Machining
1. Concept
Several I promise to my wife I would do a toilet cabinet. And I find a cool design on opendesk.
So I would design my own toilet cabinet according to Joni Steiner, Nick Ierodiaconou's design.
2. Machine and material
2.1 machine
I would use shopbot PRSalpha CNC to process my design.
The following is the basic parameter of the machine
2.2 Cutter
There are 3 kinds of end cutter for milling. I choice flat one.
The following picture show the detail information of end cutter,I use 52-910 end cutter and the diameter is 6.3mm
2.3 material
There are many different kinds of material in CNC.The following is some example
- machinable Wax (reusable) Polystyrene Rigid Insulation Foam
- Veneer Plywood
- Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
- Medium Density Overlay (MDO) High Density Polyethilene boards (HDPE)
- Oriented Strand Board (OSB) Polycarbonate
- Aluminium
In my project,I choice 1200 x2200x11 mm plywood to process my design.
3. Design
The following is some points we need to consider
- The thickness of plywood is 11mm, so I design the hole 11mm.
- The cutter has diameter, so it can't make 90 degree corner.
So we make a circuit at this corner as the following picture.
I design it in fusion 360 and following is the result of the design in Fusion 360
Then I output 2D drawing in AutoCAD , reference the detail in laser cutter:4.4 Press-fit construction kit(parameter design)
I relocation the model as the following
5. Machine software
The following is the guide in software
6. Processing
Before processing, We need to do the following step
6.1 Put material
Load plywood(1220x2440x11mm) and then use screw to fix on the platform
6.2 CHECK the home position
Click button to home position
6.3 Change cutter
This detail show in the following video
6.4 Open vacuum cleaner
Click green button to start it and red button to stop it
6.5 Spindle
click the Green button to start the spindle, and Vcarve to change the speed.
The following is the video about processing by shopbot
7. Assemble
After get all the material ,we use hammer to assemble them.
The result is the following picture.
