3D design practice for MECHANICAL DESIGN &BUILDING
In this part , I will introduce how to build my DM machine one by one

1. Basic introduce Fusion 360
I list the basic introduce of Fusion 360, interface of fusion 360, simple design in 3D design:fusion 360.

2. Sketch, Create and Modify
There are different kinds of command in Sketch, Create and Modify. I would use the above command to build the following model
2.1 Model 1.Frame
The function of this frame is build the structure of the machine and support another part.
Sketch: I use the following command in the above operation( Normal line, Circle,Fillet, Rectangle,Size, Mirror,Trim) to edit the sketch,In addition ,the frame is standard part, so I draw sketch according to the standard
Use extrude to get our 3D model. Then save the model.
2.2 Model 2. Z support
The function of Z support is to fix servo motor on the machine (it should make sure the Verticality) all of the command is extrude, so I just attach the gif video to show how to build the model.

2.3 Model 3. Nut
I build it according to the following steps
There are two new command
- Command1:Boundary Fill(Join, cut, intersect, new body) could used in creating, joining, or removing volumes using bounding volumes
formed by tool selections. We can also use the command in
Create-Boundary Fill
Command2:Thread
Create- Thread
,we can quick build thread according to the standardClick here to get more detail about the certain size or another parameter
2.4 Model 4. Stepper motor
In this part, I would use another method to get the model. The Autodesk community is very strong.Maker and designer will share their project.
I share another communityGrabcad which own many free CAD library.
Because 3D printer nozzle is standard part . I think some maker would share their data on community.So I search motor
to find it. The result:Gene Shoykhet share his project and I download it and upload in fusion 360 as following picture
I wouldn's show another machine's part because the method is similar.
3. Assemble
In this part, I would use Assemble Command to assemble the machine.
3.1 Build project
I would put most of my project model in one folder (For example :machine2 in this project) to avoid some problem. It is also OK if we use another folder's model I build a file called assemble and save it in the folder"machine2"
3.2 Insert body or component
I would insert body or component one by one. First I would add frame (4040 aluminum profile).The length is (500mm and 300mm)
3.3 Joint
In Fusion 360 we have 7 different types of Joints :
In our first assemble, I use Joint-Rigid
command
In our second assemble,I use Joint- Revolute
command
If we want to know the real working condition, we can add step4, and step5. The result is following.
Another joint command is similar. I get the result as following

4. Construct face, point, line for reference
We can build face ,line ,point for reference and then do another work. More detail on the link
5. Inspect
This part is used to check the detail of the design, and I would use the command of Measure
,Section Analysis
, Component Color cyclying Toggle
.

6. Make(output to 3D print or to vendor )
6.1 3D printer
I use Z support as example:
- Command
Make- 3D printer
to enter the interface - Selection :choice the model we need
- Refinement:normal we choice high which can keep more detail(because the model would change to triangle face ),so we can define the parameter as small as possible if we need high performance of the 3D printing.
Output-Send to 3D Print Utility
- if we choice, we will go to the Print Utility(in this case , I use cura).
- If we don't choice it ,it will output
stl
format and could send the data to other application. - We can get guide from the 3D printer practice The result is the following:
6.2 Make option
In make
we also has some options to choice some vendor to help us make it real. But some vendor couldn't provide services to Chinese customer(for example: Proto Labs)
7. Drawing
Fusion 360 drawing can output simple drawing for engineer.
When you create a drawing from the Fusion 360 modeling environment, the system generates a 2D projection of the components you select. The drawing view thus generated is referred to as a base view. Once you place the base view in the drawing, you can generate orthogonal and isometric projected views from it.(reference from Autodesk)
8. Data manage
8.1 Share the data

8.2 Change the position
If we are in big project. We can use copy, rename ,or move action to go our aim.
8.3 team working
In collaborate,I can invite team member in my project and we can do our working and communicating online very easy. In the meaning time ,we can do many work online, please reference the link
