Mechanical design

1. Idea

Due to my team member give up in Fab Academy, so I have to do it by myself. My workload is heavy , so I choice a simply design. I have interest in CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) and it will help me to build my finial project. So this topic I choice "computer control engraving machine"

2 Test one

The first design is the following ,click this link to get the A360 view.

Then I process the part using aluminum in school's ME lab.

But it can't working(moving the topic block according to step motor). I check the problem and then find the problem:Due to some operation in handworking , I didn't take care of the accuracy of position(ignore the torelance) .So it is a little different with my design.

Because this design can't working and I don't have enough material. So I change to new design with some material I have.

I use fusion360 to design my project. (Reference the design process in this link)

4. Structure manufacture

4.1Aluminum profile

I use Cutting Machine to cut it . There are two kind of size(330,500mm) ,so I cut it one by one

  • I would mark a line to identify the position;
  • Fix it on the platform;
  • Open the machine;
  • Use hand low down the cutter
  • Close the machine

4.2Aluminum block process

I use our milling machine to process it .

  • Open the main power;
  • Load material and use Bench vise to fix it . In the mean time use handle and rubber hammer to check it again;
  • Close the safety covery;
  • Run the spindle;
  • Slowly change x,y,z axis, to make sure the cutter above the model
  • Clock the z handle and the bench vise rise ,and make sure the material surface just touch ,and then define z0 on digital screen
  • Use same method to define x0 and y0;
  • In rough cutting ,every time just 1mm;
  • In finish cutting ,we need cut less than 0;5mm;
  • Stop machine;
  • Use brake to stop the spindle ;
  • Use handle to loose bench vise;
  • Take material away

5. Structure assemble

I use Allen wrench to fix the machine( bolt,nut(m3,m4,m6))

After assemble

I do the cnc shield, software, grbl controller, toolpath, easel etc in the next page of machine design
