Mechanical design, machine design

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine is an automated manufacturing tool that uses a set of software-controlled cutting tools to perform cutting, engraving, milling, drilling and other processes.

The machine is controlled by a computer that uses software to translate designs and specifications into instructions that the machine can follow. Usually the precision of a CNC machine is very high, allowing the production of complex and accurate parts, these also gives repeatability to the processes. CNC machines are widely used in industrial manufacturing and are also popular among fabrication hobbyists and makers who use these tools for prototyping and custom part creation.

For this week the goal is to create a CNC machine as a team.

The project

We made a CNC machine that can drop sawdust to generate figures on the flor, just like the sawdust carpets made on Huamantla Mexico.

My contribution

In these case, my principal contribution was made on the documentation and webpage building of the project. The things I made to create the webpage where:

1. Investigate

I entered to the FabLab's webpage and read the code to understand it's design characteristics and it's general code functionalities.

I made all that to create a webpage that flows with the current webpage and uses all the current stylesheets of the webpage.

2. Research

I made a small research in CNC machines, sawdust carpets and on the process of making a home CNC machine.

For this process I wanted to test how AI could help me on simple tasks and I used ChatGPT to generate some starting points of my research. I turned out great and I ended up saving a good amount of time.

3. Create the webpage

In this case I just had to work on creating the webpage and I tried to showcase in the best way possible all the work my teammates made on the project. For this I asked continuously to everyone if they wanted something else on the webpage or if there where some improvements they wanted on the page so everyone would be happy with the final result and felt that they work was showcased as it deserved on it.
