18. Wildcard week¶
This week I worked on Wildcard and the assignment was to design and produce something with a digital fabrication process(incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in an other assignment and I have to document the requirements that my assignment meets by including everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include but not limitted to machines,welding,folding,robotics,electronics,embedded programming,food,materials,biotechnology,textiles,and composites(materials, epoxy, carbon fiber).
Research¶
Before carrying out my assignment I first search for what are composites and I found that composites are simply a combination of two or more consistuent materials with different phyisical or chemical properties. When combined they produce a material with characteristics different from their orginal properties.
Composite two main components on the matrix(the base material) and fiber(what reinforces the material).

Designing a cap in solidWorks¶
In my assignment I want to designing a cap in solidworks and cut it with our fablab laser cutter. Below is where I started by designing a circle of 180mm of diameter and extruded it by 85mm.
Below, I was creating flixtures to make my body flexible so that I can bend it, after creating small feature on my body, I used circular partern for many features on my body.
Below, I was adding other small features in between the first ones so that my body should be more flexible, then I have used circular partern to multiply too. And that is the third body of my cap And I have used flatherning surface solidworks tool to flathern my body to be cutted by our laser cutter on a flat material.
Below, I created a small rectangle on my cap base and multiply them using Linear patern too in order to create Body2 of my cap.
Then, I extrude cut, my small rectangles as you can see below. Then I followed the same procedure in desinning the first Body of my cap.
I have used solid bodies in designing my cap for designing it togateher,to be assembled accurately . All the 3 bodies of my cap have created togather as you can see below.

Producing my designed cap¶
Ater creating my cap in solidwork, I exported it as a DXF file to be cutted by our laser cutter and I cutted them and assembled them and produce my cap as you can see below.

Then its time to hardern my cap and below is me preaparing my cap to be harderned using fabric material.
I take a 1/2 litters water bootle and cut it to take a small piece of 1/3 of it. I putted in 2 cups of that cup full resign product as you can see below.
Using the same cup, I take 1 cup of hardener product as Below
Below, I was melanding resin and hardener product
Below, I was harderning my cap
Below, is the harderned cap and it is very hard you can not broke it.
Even the inner part is very hard too as you can see.
