Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered
I will make a smart miniature house which has some cool features like automatic doors and shades, remote light control and an NFC door lock. The miniature house doesn't really have a practical purpose other than being fun to look at and play with, but I am thinking about adding these features to my actual home later. Maybe I can even build a cool house like this in the future :P
NFC lock, motion sensor controlled light, doorbell and mini camera on the main door
Screen on the wall to see who's on the door when someone rings the doorbell
Photo frame on the wall - you can show your own image by connecting your phone through bluetooth
Automatic shade for the rooftop
Automatic curtain
Swimming pool water controlled with a water pump
Motion sensor controlled light, NFC lock on the garage
Automatic garage door, the rail on the garage floor which pulls your car out of the garage
Control with an app
Light control (color, brightness)
Elevator
There are a lot of beautiful miniature houses ranging from handmade DIY ones to the kits which you can buy. Also, there are many cool home automation projects you can easily follow along. What I want to make is the combination of these two things. A miniature house and home automation. So I googled smart miniature house, and I found some projects related to my final project.
This one is pretty close to what's in my mind, but I wanted to build one with more features, not just the light control or bluetooth speaker.
There's another similar project which is an interactive Barbie house called Hello dreamhouse. This product has a lot more features than I expected. You can control the house by voice command, which I also want to implement to my house. But the problem was that I don't like the way it looks. What I want to make is a nice looking modern house with useful features which adults can play with without feeling too childish.
There are 2 main parts that I have to design. The first part is the house design. I want to make a house that I want to live in. While working on the house design, I had so much fun because it felt like I was building a real house for myself. This is the house body design I drew in Fusion 360.
The second part is the technical structure. I am going to use a Raspberry Pi as an MQTT broker to communicate with the house through both the hardware and software. Also, I have to think about how I can hide all the wires and boards so that the house doesn't look half-built. I added the empty space on the bottom of the house design so that I can place some boards and motors. The wires can be hidden between walls but it's probably going to take some time to tidy them up.
- wood panel, cement, acrylic sheet - for the house body
- stepper motors and drivers
- servo motors
- NFC reader and tag
- LEDs
- LCD screen
- speaker
- water pump
- ESP-WROOM-32
- ESP32-CAM
- limit switch
- push buttons
- Raspberry Pi
I definitely need more materials than the ones mentioned above, such as resistors, capacitors, and so on. I am keeping track of what I used and will use on my note aside. I will update the detailed material list at once on the final project page later.
Material | Quantity | Price | Store link | Usage |
---|---|---|---|---|

Water pump | 1 | €2,18 | Banggood | Swimming pool |
ESP32-CAM | 1 | €9.99 | Banggood | Doorbell camera |
TMB12A05 buzzer | 1 | €1,13 | AliExpress | Doorbell buzzer |
2.2" Color TFT LCD Display Module | 1 | €13,29 | Amazon | Doorbell screen |

Wood varnish | 1 | €11,19 | Praxis | House body decoration |
Wood paint primer | 1 | €7,19 | Praxis | House body decoration |
Wood paint | 1 | €8,69 | Praxis | House body decoration |
The house body and the software for the communication between house and the client will be made by myself. I will mainly use the ESP-WROOM-32 to make my own board. Also, I am going to make pieces of furniture to give a more realistic look to the house.
