Welcome to my Fab Academy Website !

About Me
Hello ! I'm Jonas, a physicist doing its PhD thesis in applied fluid dynamics at ULB (Brussels, Belgium). My promoter is Denis Terwagne, a former Fab Academy student and together we are studying theoretically and experimentally fog droplets dynamics in order to improve fog harvesting techniques such as fog nets. The picture on the right captures Dar Si Hmad Foundation's fog nets designed by Aqualonis and installed on Tabtist Moutain, Morocco.
Former projects
Raytracing with general relativity
Here is a picture generated by the raytracing algorithm around a black hole I wrote for my Master thesis. It was written in C++ and GLSL with OpenGL. As usual 3D engine, the algorithm consider a backwards light ray coming from the observer's eye, going trhough each pixel and verifying if it touches something or not. The difference here is that light rays trajectories are not straight but are computed with general relativity.
Neuron Tractography
At the end of my master cycle I did an internship in a medical imagery laboratory. The goal of my work was to learn how to use DiPy (a Python library made to read and analyse diffusion MRI data) and write an algorithm that tracks neuron in the brain. Diffusion MRI highlights water motion instead of water presence. It then allows one to see neurons and measure their length. Here are pictures generated from MRI data by a tractography algorithm.
Shaders Programing with OpenGL
Here is a shot of a small "video-game" project I did with one of my friend for a course. The goal was that we learn how to program 3D engine, physics engine and shaders with OpenGL. My part was to write the part computing the shaders of the objects and to design a "cartoon" shader. The cartoon shader is roughly an edge detection algorithm highlighting the edges of the objects.
Why Fab Academy ?
In 2024, I followed Denis Terwagne's course inspired by the Fab Academy called FabZero. I learned the basis of project management, documentation websites, CAD, 3D printing and embeded programming with Arduino. Here is my FabZero website. FabZero made me discover digital fabrication and I now want to go way deeper.
Furthermore, for my thesis research, I will have to improve of experimental setup which will require digital fabrication and electronics.
Finally, I got bored of the theoretical physics world and I missed working with my hands and building stuff.
