About me

Hey! My name is Sydney Gee, and I am a sophomore at Charlotte Latin School. I am relatively new to engineering, but I have always taken a strong interest in the topic. Although I do not know much about what fabrication is nor had I ever heard of it prior to applying for Fab Academy, I am excited to expand my knowledge on the subject. At my school, they offer basic engineering courses. From taking those, I have learned very basic abilities on the laser cutter, 3D printer, and the CNC machine. I am very excited to learn many new abilities and techniques that I can use in the future, whether in the lab or anywhere else. I also really like astronomy and would like to learn more about space and its vastness. My hobbies include sewing (cross-stitch), playing video games, watching movies, and yoga.

My background

I have lived in the Charlotte for the majority of my life, however I briefly lived in New York for one year a couple years ago.

Previous work

I took two engineering classes called ‘Design I’ and ‘Design II’ at my school last year. During those, I learned most of the skills that I know now. Here is a link to my Google Sites where I documented the process of all the projects I made. My Google Site

My favorite project that I worked on by far was the Smart Ukulele. Following a tutorial I recieved from Instructables, I soldered a mic amp to a 16-LED neopixel and from there, using a code that I got from Arduino, I edited it to work with the neopixel and mic amp so that it flickered every time I played a note.

I really liked this project because it was the most extensive project aside from eCYBERMISSION that I had ever done. This time was a bit different, however, because I made it all by myself.
