Week 05 - 3D scanning and printing
This week I will learn about 3D scanning and printing.
Group Assignment:
Test the design rules of a 3D printer (overhangs, tolerances, bridging, etc.) to understand its performance limitations (each printer is different):
● Overhangs/Bridging: Maximum distance without support ● Tolerance: Clearance for moving parts ● Wall Thickness: Minimum thickness for structural integrity ● Hole Precision Accuracy: Match between actual and designed dimensions ● First Layer Adhesion: Bed leveling and material compatibility
Individual Assignment:
1.Design and print a small 3D object that cannot be made through subtractive manufacturing (something CNC cannot do), for example: ● Enclosed cavities (sphere in a cube) ● Complex internal channels ● Organic shapes (branches/waves) ● In-place interlocking parts ● And so on... Remember to document the process and design steps.
2.3D scan an object and record the process (you can choose whether to print it or not) Choose a suitable object (matte, textured) and select appropriate 3D scanning software. You can use a turntable and fixed lighting.
