0. Group Assignment
This week marks our first team project and the initial hands-on experience with the equipment. Our task is to design an object that will help us calculate the error margin of the laser cutting machine in the Chaihuo FabLab. The object should be designed in a way that it can be easily assembled and disassembled, and it should be able to measure the error margin of the laser cutting machine with a high degree of accuracy.
0.1 Laser Machine
The laser cutting machine in the Chaihuo FabLab is AWC708C LITE
The information of the machine is as follows:
First I need to read the manual of the machine.
0.3 Design
We designed a serrated object with teeth spacing gradually decreasing from 0.6mm to 0.0mm, scaled at 1mm intervals.
0.3 Cutting
We cut the object with the laser cutting machine.
0.0.1 Parameters Setting
There is the recommended parameters of the laser cutting machine.
We set the parameters of the laser cutting machine as follows:
- Laser Power: 90%
- Laser Speed: 30mm/s
Load the design file to the laser cutting machine.
if you set the wrong parameters, the laser cutting machine may not cut the object correctly. like this:
0.4 Caulculation
After cutting the object, we measured the deviation of the laser cutting machine by comparing the actual spacing between the teeth with the designed spacing.
Measurement of the actual width by means of vernier calipers:
Calculation of the error margin:
0.5 Conclusion
The error margin of the laser cutting machine is 1.1714mm
