Mechanical Design

For this assignment I wanted to explore the differente possibilities to build a cnc mechanism. I was exploring the machines that we have on fablab for example the Roland Modela and the Shopbot cnc.

This is the Reprap Delta machine and i was interested on knowing more about this mechanism so i was exploring more about this.

In this video is well explained the possibilites of the RepRap delta cnc

After searching information and exploring the possibilities. The machine that is very simple, possible to build with local materials is the XY core mechanism. This graphic, found on the website, could show how this mechanism work.

In this mechanism, the motors work for each movement, in the same direccion to move one axis and in oposite direccion to move the spindle the other axis.

This XY core is the most simple mechanism for building a cnc machine.

In this website is the explanation how it works with more details

This week was the preparation for machine design, actually we as group explore about mechanical design, mechanism and how they work. This week was te investigation for making machine design that includes the mechanical parts.

This week we were making tours to diferent places of the city where we could find motors, gears, belts and each material that we could use for making our machines.

Following this references we decided to build the xy core machine, documented on Machine Design assignment
